I am delighted to have been chosen as the President of the Bradford and District Union of Golf Clubs and will undertake to carry out the role according to the high standards set by my predecessors.
I am particularly pleased that all the officers of the Union have agreed to continue in their roles for the next twelve months, and I would particularly like to pay tribute to Paul Crosby who has been our Treasurer since 1980, and was able to announce at the AGM in February 2009 that the Union’s finances were as healthy as they have ever been.
Our Competitions Secretary, Mike Winterburn, has announced that he will be standing down at the end of this year, so I would ask that if anyone is interested in carrying out this valuable role for 2010 onwards they contact Mike and he will explain what is involved .
The Sponsors make a vital contribution to the running of the Union and thanks go to the Sunwin Group who sponsor our Juniors, the Bradford Open and the Annual Dinner. New Sponsors last year were West Riding Motors who sponsor the Scratch Team and the Scratch Leagues, and are continuing this year, as are City Travel Yorkshire who provide our Junior Inter-District Team with transport to away matches. A new sponsor for 2009 will be Sovereign Health Care who will sponsor President’s Day.
All the entry sheets and details for the various competitions run by the Union have now been sent to the Clubs: I hope that as many members as possible will enter, and I look forward to meeting many of you on the Competition Days. I also hope to meet the Club officials at the Friday evening matches during the season, and would like to wish all members of the Bradford Union an enjoyable golfing 2009.
