The Finals day at West Bradford today didn’t disappoint with high quality golf, a couple of surprises and some magnificent play by the higher handicap players.
The mornings single semi-finals saw Ben Rhodes taking on Terry Brushwood, a close match going Ben’s way when he won 16 & 17 to win 2&1. The other half of the draw had Andrew Busfield up against Chris Sugden with Buzz coming out on top with a 4&2 win.
The foursomes saw the underdogs win both semis with Chris Foster and Adam Golfingpal Charles overcoming Jordan Clements and Rob Malloy, and Dale Heaton and Callum Gray taking out favourites Chris Green and Tom Vertigans.
Whilst this action was playing out the handicap match play final was concluded with a great match going Skipton’s way with golf that wouldn’t have been out of place in the scratch comp. Congratulations to Graham Wild and Ian Jolly the unlucky losers Gerry Pearson and Paul Hook were from the home club.
The singles final saw some stunning golf, with Ben in blistering form and Buzz playing great golf to simply keep in touch. It ended on the 14th with Ben carding 9 threes, 3 fours and 2 fives, but Buzz only 1 over par. A superb performance by our Open Champion in his last BDUGC event.
The foursomes between unfancied Clayton and Keighley saw Chris giving Adam enough pep talks to get them over the line with Adam holing out for a 2 on 14 and then for a good par on 15 to beat Callum and Dale, great performances from both teams on the day though.
